My work challenges this assumption by urging viewers to imagine the river—and connected watershed—as something other than commodities: Go As a River is a media projection installation that views the San Lorenzo River, a central vein running through Santa Cruz, California, as a source of many histories. Aural interviews with community members and imagery reflecting the beauty of the river address its unique water issues and unveil the community’s relationships with the river. Play the Beach

Play The Beach is a site-specific environmental game about climate change set on Santa Cruz’s popular Dog Beach by Lighthouse Point. Participants engage with the surf by running out as far as possible without being touched by a wave and planting sticks into the sand. The team with the highest total score, determined by measuring the watermarks on their sticks, wins. You can view an earlier version of this alternative game series here:
